**PLEASE READ TO THE END FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION** Good afternoon, NEASO!! I know this goes without saying, but there’s a lot going on right now!! While there are many “unknowns” that beg our patience, there are a few NEASO “knowns” that I’m pleased to share! As previously announced, David Schlein stepped down as chief shop steward effective January 1, 2012. I am pleased to announce that Jay Hunter (ITS) has agreed to serve in that role! Jay has already chaired his first stewards’ meeting and shared his excitement with the group. Jay is planning to schedule stewards’ training sometime in the near future. Please take time to wish Jay well and thank him for stepping up! So What Else is New? Merwyn Scott (GR) has agreed to chair the Grievance and Conflict Resolution Committee! With a general counsel on staff, the role of the Grievance Committee has changed. What was formerly part of their responsibility is now part of Dan DiJames (NEASO ED/GC) job description. Merwyn and Dan will work to retool the committee, flesh out the division of labor, and get the committee trained in member-to-member conflict resolution. Thank you, Merwyn, for your leadership! Is That All? Though the Bargaining Committee has been at work for some time, I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath to hear who was going to serve on the Bargaining Team. Well, here they are: Susan Nogan, chief spokesperson Nina Price Bill Moreno David Schlein Joel Solomon Dan DiJames I will not be at the table as a participant, but I will be present as an observer. This is a strong team, and you will have many opportunities in the coming weeks to show them your support. Please wish them well and, more important, thank them for the sacrifice of time and service as they prepare to bargain during these difficult times! All Staff Meeting I know we are all waiting anxiously to hear what Johno has to say on Friday. While I don’t know exactly what he’s planning to share, I anticipate that much of the meeting will revolve around his vision for the organizational framework and restructuring. How exactly will that affect us, I don’t know. As a follow up to Friday’s meeting, I’m scheduling a brief NEASO unit meeting on Monday to address what concerns and question you may have. I may not have all of the answers available at that meeting, but it will open the dialogue and give me an idea of your areas of concern. WHAT: NEASO Unit Meeting
